Edmonds’ Heritage: Preserving the beauty of Edmonds for future generations is Steve’s most important goal. On the City Council, Steve will help manage growth to protect Edmonds from congestion, crowding, and blight.
Zoning Laws: Steve believes landowners can develop property any way they want . . . so long as they follow the law. So when the City Council approved an over-sized building in Steve’s neighborhood, Steve sued . . . and won! (Sno. Sup. Ct. #04-2-08263-1).
Sustainable Development: On the Mayor’s Global Warming Committee Steve’s suggested renewable power programs, anti-idling laws and sustainable construction regulations. He favors sensible local development that provides shopping, work, and recreation and helps reduce driving.
Public Participation: After the Mayor had secret talks with waterfront developers, Steve hosted six public meetings for all residents to share concerns, which helped open the waterfront planning process.
Fossil Fuels: When oil supplies got tight, Steve persuaded the City to buy biodiesel; now 20% of Edmonds diesel fuel comes from soybeans, not the Middle East.
